BAE Systems Detica today announced that it has been selected by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) as preferred bidder for its Service Management Integration (SMI) framework.

As service integrator, BAE Systems Detica will be responsible for managing the FCO’s IT suppliers across a global network of over 260 posts around the world and more than 14,000 employees, improving and maintaining continuity of its critical systems to help the government organisation achieve greater efficiencies and value for money.

Today’s announcement marks the first public sector service integration contract to come to market.  BAE Systems Detica was selected by the FCO thanks to its experience managing complex IT delivery within highly secure environments, its deep understanding of the FCO’s IT requirements as well as its independence from traditional IT providers.

Martin Sutherland, Managing Director of BAE Systems Detica, comments:

“We’re delighted to be selected by the FCO for this market-first IT contract.  This is a significant milestone in our plans to establish ourselves as a leading service integrator.

“Being selected in the face of strong competition from large global IT players demonstrates our ability to bring the right capabilities to bear for the right solution.  Over the coming months we will draw on the wider capability within BAE Systems, combining our delivery management and security expertise with the proven processes of BAE Systems Shared Services’ integrated service management team, in order to deliver a solution for the FCO that allows the organisation to achieve dynamic resilience in its IT infrastructure across the world.”

It is anticipated that the FCO and BAE Systems Detica will formally sign the Service Management Integration (SMI) framework contract in Summer 2013.
