The mobile operator was seeing a significant increase in the volumes of communications data being retained under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA), and in the number of disclosure queries being raised. Compounded by new requirements and support for new communications data the mobile operator was looking to upgrade their current disclosure system.
Our solution
Detica designed, developed and implemented a new disclosures system based on their DataRetain™ product, BAE Systems Detica’s solution to the storage and querying of billions of records per day using low-cost, off-the-shelf commodity hardware. The new system was benchmarked loading and indexing 1.5TB of data per day, whilst simultaneously executing 2,000 requests per day with an average response time of 10 seconds. Following go-live of the new solution, a backlog of 2,000 queries from the old system was processed in less than an hour.
Since implementing Detica’s DataRetain™ solution, data storage costs have been minimised since all retained data is based on an architecture that requires a minimal amount of physical storage and a very low server footprint.
